Vision
We believe in a family-centered team approach when it comes to speech and language therapy services. The needs of the patient and their loved ones come first. We work together to determine the client’s strengths and identify areas for growth.
I believe communication is the foundation that allows us all to participate fully in the things we love.
My story…
Born and raised on the prairies, I returned to my rural roots following university and clinical placements in the United States. After graduating, I began my career as a speech language pathologist in South East Cornerstone School Division in Estevan, SK. There I worked with students in Kindergarten through grade 12 in many different schools alongside a team of therapists and teachers to support the development and communication of children.
During my time in SECSD, I learned so much from the students and professionals I had the pleasure of working with and my passion to support communication deepened. My drive to strengthen communication skills and build bridges to close the gaps grew. I had the distinct pleasure of assisting students in forming friendships, and aiding in their participation in the classroom with their peers.
My next move brought me across the border to Elkhorn, MB where I worked along side a wonderful team of health care professionals including nurses, physicians, other therapists and administrators in Prairie Mountain Health across South Western Manitoba. While in this role, I travelled across rural Southwestern Manitoba to hospitals, personal care homes and training facilities providing educational training, assessing, providing therapy, supporting inpatients, outpatients and their families in a variety of settings and communities. Working in the the health field with adults and their loved ones allowed me the distinct pleasure of sharing tools to develop, bridge and rebuild communication supporting and rebuilding the quality of life every person deserves.
I then joined the Fort la Bosse School Division’s clinical support team where I have worked collaboratively with so many wonderful professionals to support children of all ages. Working alongside families, teachers, therapists and administrators has taught me so many valuable lessons and shaped me into a better therapist.
A strong foundation in communication skills such as speech sounds, expressive (oral) language, receptive (understanding) language, and phonological awareness pre-literacy skills set children up for success. Speech and language therapy may focus on rehabilitating or developing skills in the above areas and/or finding different ways to compensate for chronic or persistent impairments. Our overall goal is always to support communication for individuals and to ensure they have the skills and resources they need.
I believe communication is the foundation that allows us all to participate fully in the things that we love. I believe everyone; children, adolescents, and adults, all deserve a voice to be heard. I believe in meeting people where they are, and building their skills through their own interests. I am confident in my ability to help assess and treat the barriers in communication.
